Reasons why Cyn enjoyed Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless:
1) It’s Breakfast Club: A Retelling but in a grocery store! (Which means after-hours shenanigans in a grocery store!)
Seriously this books screams Breakfast Club. The story is about 6 teens aka the Youngsters, who work part-time at the local grocery store and who are now stuck in “work jail” (aka. the lunch room) after closing hours after being accused of stealing $10,000. I loved seeing these six totally different and awkward people become friends through the most ridiculous ways (work jail is a catalysis for bonding a tell ya). And yes, there is after-hours shenanigans. I always wanted to run around a closed grocery store.
2) Awesome characters. Diversity is always a win.
Chloe is our slightly awkward dork, Tyson is the charming golden boy, Micah is the too-nice brilliant boy, Sammi is the tough girl, Zaina is the pretty, quiet one and Gabe is our flirting rich boy. The story really focused on the friendship and character development so it really helped that each character really brought something different to the table (and each likable in their own way). The dynamic between them was great and I loved that not only were they all of different personalities but there’s a mix of races, too.
3) This book literally screams super adorableness. Cute, fluffiness all around for everyone.
The story itself isn’t super original and the plot is stretched a little thin over the course of the book, but the wonderful characters really make this book. The chemistry was there and the dialogue was really the star of the story. It’s the reason that I wanted to keep reading. Lots of sweet moments and a little bit of awkward of romances all around for everyone tops this ice-cream sundae of a book. There’s even a little mystery for you to solve. And, it’s a Holiday-ish themed book!
4) It’s full of lists! Who doesn’t love lists?
Chloe is a list writer and that’s how each chapter beginnings and well I love lists. My favourite list in this book was the “Ten Movies That Makes Me Wish My Life Was More Like a Movie” – because hello, talk about meta (and yes Breakfast Club was on the list, muahaha).
5) This book knows how to use the cliches but in a good way.
There’s nothing too terribly surprising that happens in this book but it’s still super enjoyable. It’s like comfort food and your favourite movie, it doesn’t disappoints and it knows you all too well so it can hit all the sweet spots and craving. Overall it’s a really fun, quick and cute read. If you like contemporaries and you like The Breakfast Club, or just even some friendship building, than this is the book for you.
